Thassos White
Thassos White is the whitest natural marble available: a pure, crystalline white from the Greek island of Thassos with almost no veining and a faint sparkle in the crystal. Designers reach for it when they want the brightness of white porcelain with the depth and cool touch of real stone, and it is the go-to white for mixing with other marbles in waterjet mosaics. This collection has 85 Thassos tiles and mosaics in polished and honed finishes.
What's in the collection
Field tile in 12x12, 3x6 and 2x12; 12x12 mosaics in hexagon, basketweave, chevron, herringbone, penny round, arabesque and 1x2 brick; and waterjet floral and geometric mosaics that pair Thassos with Carrara, Calacatta, Nero Marquina, Azul Celeste blue marble and mother of pearl. Pencil liners, borders, corners and baseboards complete the set.
Where to use Thassos White
Shower walls and floors, bathroom floors, backsplashes, vanity walls and fireplace surrounds. Thassos is the standard choice for an all-white bathroom and for brightening a small powder room. It pairs with any cabinet color and with polished nickel, chrome or brass.
Polished or honed
Polished Thassos is brilliant white and shows the crystal sparkle; honed is a soft, chalky white that hides water spots and gives grip. Many customers use polished on walls and honed on floors.
Care
Thassos is denser than most marbles but still porous: seal it, and avoid acidic cleaners. Because it is so white, use a white thinset and white grout so nothing shows through or stains the stone.
Frequently asked questions
What is Thassos marble?
A pure white, fine-grained crystalline marble quarried on the island of Thassos in northern Greece. It is the whitest marble commonly available and has little to no veining.
Is Thassos more expensive than Carrara?
Usually yes. Thassos is quarried in smaller quantities and its pure white is in high demand, so it costs more per square foot than Carrara White and about the same as Calacatta Gold.
Will Thassos yellow or stain?
Not if it is set with white thinset and sealed. Gray thinset can shadow through thin pieces, and unsealed Thassos can absorb colored liquids, so install it correctly and seal.
Does Thassos need sealing?
Yes. Marble is porous. Apply a penetrating sealer after grout cures, wipe off the excess, and re-seal every 1–2 years in showers and kitchens. Clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner; vinegar, lemon and bleach etch the surface.
Do you sell samples?
Yes. Every tile and mosaic here has a sample listing. Natural stone varies from lot to lot, so order a sample first, and buy all the tile for one project at the same time so it comes from one lot.
How fast does it ship?
In stock in the US and ships in 2–3 business days. Boxed tile and mosaics ship by ground; larger orders go LTL freight.
